Full Version: Mir :"Fedor is dodging competition"
King Styles

if you just want to hear the Fedor part, go to 5:30. but the whole interview is really interesting imo.

and before somebody calls Mir stupid or anything, listen to the whole thing. Frank Mir is a really intelligent fighter and knows a lot about MMA (listen to his WEC commentary for example).
Deany
Mir is a great reader of the sport, and what he says about the cage is very true. Fedor isn't a cage fighter, he's never been truly a cage fighter, so it'll be interesting to see him in Strikeforce to see how he copes. Until then i'll remain with Fedor as the best Heavyweight.
King Styles
^^ i know you do, but be honest for a second Deany. who in Strikeforce could really challenge Fedor ? Werdum proved to have a glas chin. sure he looked impressive in his Strikeforce debut against a no name that ran right into a guillotine. Overeem is easy to beat on the ground, and Fedor is one of the best HW on the ground. the last one is my Strikeforce favourite Brett Rogers who just knocked out Arlovski in 24 seconds. but he has no ground game at all. and these 3 are the only HW in Strikeforce that come even close to fighting Fedor. M-1 won't let one of their guys fight Fedor and DREAM is more about the lighter weights.
and then look at the UFC : Couture, Cro Cop, Nogueira, Lesnar, Mir, Carwin, Velasquez and Gonzaga.
Deany
But then I put this to you, just because they are more famous, doesn't make them better fighters, there could be hidden gems in strikeforce that need to to be brought into the public eye.
The only reason Lesnar got the title shot was because he was famous.

you are right, they aren't better fighters because they are more famous.
but like i said before, Fedor is a great fighter and i do believe that he won't lose a fight in his career untill he goes to the UFC. i mean i know there are great fighters outside the UFC like Fedor, Shields, Lawler, Moussasi, Diaz and the list goes on. but you can't argue that the UFC has the biggest pool of great talent. sure Fedor will get tested, but outside the UFC most companies maybe have 2-3 good fighters per weight class, while the UFC has a lot more. Strikeforce WW class for example has Nick Diaz and Jake Shields, 2 very good fighters. but the UFC has GSP, Alves, Kampmann, Condit, Koshcheck, Swick and Fitch for example. for you these might just be big names, but for every MMA fan these are top level fighters.
Deany
There are tons of guys around as good or better than them, the only reason they're top level fighters is because they fight other big names. The only reason they are thought of as better is because they have had more exposure, when if you look at their records they aren't much better or indeed are worse.

ok, how about naming tons of WW that are better than GSP, Alves, Kampmann, Condit, Koshcheck, Swick and Fitch.

and their records might be worse than some indy-fighters because they actually face top level opponents. but i really like to hear about the tons of guys that are better Deany, please name them.
Deany
To name a few, there's my favourite WW Nick 'The Goat' THompson, there's Hayato Sakuri, Jay heiron, Lyman Good is looking great as he's undefeated out of 10 fights, Paul Daley is very talented and of course Diaz and Shields.
King Styles
i said there are some great guys in every weight class out there. but those aren't tons, just a hand full. and you can't say that the guys i listed aren't at least in the same league.
because let's face it, if you are a good fighter the UFC will try to sign you. and they have their eyes all over the world. for example the british fighters or Peter Sobotta from Germany. so if you are not Fedor or have personal issues with the UFC, you will sign sooner than later.
plus Dana White recently said that they are going to Japan and are looking to sign some major fighters from DREAM and Sengoku.
so i can't see how you can say that there are no good fighters in the UFC.
Deany
I didn't say there were no good fighters, they are great fighters in the UFC, but there is a wealth of unrecognised talent and recognised talent not under UFC contract, like Shinya Aoki, who is probably the best lightweight in the world or at least on par with BJ Penn. Middleweight there's Cung Le, Zelg Galesic, Murilo Rua and Mark Weir who spring to mind. At Wleter there's Nick Thompson who has an extraordinary record of 50 fights in 6 years and won nearly all.
